Job Title: Clinical Specialist/Clinical Research Scientist

Location: Andover, MA

Report To: Clinical Program Manager

TransMedics, Inc., is the world’s leader in portable ex-vivo warm perfusion and assessment of donor organs for transplantation. Headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts, the company was founded to address the unmet need for more and better organs for transplantation, and has developed technologies to improve organ quality, validate organ viability, and increase the utilization of transplant organs for the treatment of end-stage heart, lung, and liver failure. We are currently hiring Clinical Specialists and Clinical Research Scientists (MD’s) to help revolutionize transplant medicine and drive clinical adoption. Successful candidates will have a strong clinical background as a physician, nurse, PA, or Transplant Coordinator and will provide expertise to clinical research, clinical adoption, customer training and site implementation activities in the US and internationally. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced and dynamic medical device company. This position is based in Andover, MA and requires significant travel.

Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Following an intensive training program at our Andover, MA headquarters, provide on site field support to clinical sites
    • Travel in the US and internationally approximately 50% of the time (including weekends and holidays) in 2-3 week increments with 24x7 on-call
    • Provide field support for the implementation and on-going use of the Organ Care System (OCS) in US and International clinical centers (both commercial and clinical trail sites)
    • Train and provide guidance to clinical users on TransMedics’ OCS use model for organ retrievals, transport and assessment using the OCS at the supported sites
    • Support the use of the OCS during the process of organ retrieval and transport prior to transplantation
    • Communicate regularly with the TransMedics Program Manager regarding OCS utilization activities and user feedback
    • Perform sales support/account management duties to accelerate clinical adoption and support the Company’s commercial activities (currently outside US only) through strategic articulation of the value proposition
    • Participate in R&D activities for the development of the Organ Care System (OCS), including assisting with pre-clinical surgical procedures
    • May participate in medical and scientific conferences and meetings
    • Participate in internal case reviews following the use of OCS
    • Train and supervise other researchers, clinical staff and others as needed on the OCS use model
    • Act as the liaison between TransMedics and the clinical staff at the hospital
    • Manage and maintain OCS inventory of hardware and disposables at sites
  • Perform other TransMedics tasks and duties as required.

Background/Qualifications:
Candidates must have one of the following, or equivalent combination of education and experience:

  • Recent experience as ICU or OR nurse/PA (or equivalent experience) with:
    • Experience coordinating care for patients with various medical diagnoses
    • Experience managing patients on ventilator support and telemetry
    • Charge nurse duties

OR

  • MD with:
    • 2 years of recent clinical experience
    • Experience managing clinical research projects and associated publications
    • Strong data management skills

OR

  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Transplant Coordinator with a strong track record in the following areas:
    • Expertise in and application of sterile technique
    • Maintenance and management of confidential donor information and appropriate paperwork from beginning to end of case
    • Independent surgical removal of tissue for purpose of transplant research or education
    • First-assist to Transplant Surgeons on recovery of organs for transplant
    • Perfusion of all organs for transplant

  • Excellent customer facing skills
  • Ability to work calmly and professinally under pressure
  • Must be able to enthusiastically work at fast pace in dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Education:
BS Nursing, Life Sciences or relevant field, or PA, or MD
