Job Title: Clinical Specialist

Location: Andover, MA

Reports to: Program Manager

TransMedics, Inc. is currently looking for Clinical Specialists to join our team and help revolutionize transplant medicine. The successful candidate will have a strong clinical background as a physician, ICU nurse or Transplant Coordinator and will provide expertise to clinical research and site implementation activities in the US and Europe. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced and dynamic medical device company. This position is based in Andover, MA (no relocation support provided) and requires significant travel.

Job Duties:

  • Participate in R&D activities for the development of the Organ Care System (OCS) as assigned by the Program Manage
  • Analyze pre-clinical data and prepare clinical reports to support Company applications to different licensing and regulatory agencies
  • Develop presentations and write abstracts
  • Participate in medical and scientific conferences and scientific meetings.
  • Following an intensive training program at our Andover, MA headquarters, provide on site field support to one or more clinical sites
    • Travel in the US and internationally approximately 60-75% of the time (including weekends and holidays) in 2-3 week increments with 24x7 on-cal
    • Provide field support for the implementation and on-going use of the Organ Care System (OCS) in US and International clinical centers (both commercial and clinical trail sites)
    • Implement and provide guidance to clinical users on TransMedics’ protocol for organ retrievals, transport and assessment using the OCS at the supported sites
    • Trouble shoot the OCS through out the process of organ retrieval, transport and assessment prior to transplantation
    • Communicate regularly with Program Manager regarding OCS utilization activities, device related issues and user feedback
    • Ensure timely and accurate transfer of the collected OCS data after each OCS use and actively present the case in the case review meeting
    • Provide TransMedics with follow-up on patient status post transplant
    • Train and supervise other researchers, clinical staff and others as needed on the OCS use model
    • Act as the liaison between TransMedics and the clinical staff at the supported staff
    • Manage and maintain OCS inventory of hardware and disposables at sites
    • Perform on-site device routine testing and provide status reports
  • Perform other TransMedics tasks and duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • BS Nursing and experience as cardiac ICU nurse with working knowledge in the following areas:
    • Coordination of care for patients with various medical and cardiac diagnoses.
    • Management of patients on ventilator support and telemetry.
    • Charge nurse duties as assigned.

OR

  • MD/PhD in CV surgery plus minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a practicing Cardio-Vascular (CV) Surgeon. Working knowledge in the following areas:
    • Clinical practice with 2 years experience in CV surgery
    • Management of Clinical research projects and associated publications
    • Data management skills

OR

  • BS Biology/Sciences plus a minimum of two years of experience as Transplant Coordinator with a strong track record in the following areas:
    • Application and expertise of sterile technique
    • Maintenance and management of confidential donor information and appropriate paperwork from beginning to end of case
    • Independent surgical removal of tissue for purpose of transplant research or education
    • First-assist to Transplant Surgeons on recovery of organs for transplant
    • Perfusion of all organs for transplant

Experience:

  • Experience in cardiac thoracic device industry (VAD or ICD) or robotics strongly preferred
  • Must be detail oriented and highly organized
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm with strong customer facing skills
