Hospitals and Clinicians OCS Wireless Monitor

The Organ Care System's wireless monitor controls and displays the system functions. The monitor also provides important information to allow assessment of the organ by the physician.

THE ORGAN CARE SYSTEM PROVIDES THE SURGEON THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASSESS AND POTENTIALLY IMPROVE THE ORGAN FUNCTION PRIOR TO TRANSPLANT

TransMedics' Organ Care System is a unique organ maintenance and transportation system designed to increase the availability of organs and potentially improve the function of these organs, potentially resulting in better outcomes for patients and lower costs to the healthcare system. The Organ Care System is designed to maintain an organ in a warm, functioning state outside of the body, pumping oxygenated, nutrient-rich blood through the organ, while it is transported from donor to recipient.

Current cold preservation methods for organ transportation create severe time limitations, as well as injury to the organ, resulting in significant underutilization of the current pool of consented, donated organs.

The first use of the Organ Care System is for heart transplant. It is the first commercial, portable, warm blood perfusion organ preservation and transportation system to maintain a heart in a beating, functioning state outside the body. By maintaining the organ in a "living" functional state, the Organ Care System provides clinicians the opportunity to assess and potentially improve an organ's function prior to transplant. Through the system's wireless monitor the clinician is provided important information regarding the status of the organ. In the case of the heart, functional information such as aortic pressure, coronary flow, blood temperature, and heart rate are among the parameters monitored. The system is also designed to enable sterile ultrasound assessment of the organ as well as blood sampling for metabolic and hematologic evaluation.

The Organ Care System has undergone years of extensive testing in consultation with some of the world's leading transplant surgeons. Furthermore, multi-center studies are being initiated and conducted to demonstrate the capabilities of the Organ Care System.
